One of the joys of Alderney is the 30 miles of footpaths around the Island which provide glorious walking in all weathers. There are conducted walks, or you can just explore - there is an Ordnance Survey map in Puffins for our visitors. If you enjoy running, join the Alderney Runners for their weekly trot round the island (01481 824 230 for time and place) - all abilities, speeds and distances welcome. In May there is a 10 mile running/walking race round the coastpath, in July a walking and running race to find the Goldsworthy Stones, and in September there is a very popular Half Marathon and 10 km race. You can find details of all these on the Run Alderney website
You can hire bicycles or cars locally at very reasonable rates.
Alderney Cinema screens recent releases every Thursday and Monday evenings. There is an interval while the reels are changed - you can order interval drinks at the Georgian opposite!
There are lots of safe, clean, sandy beaches around the Island which are never crowded. The climate is maritime - not too cold in the winter (frosts are rare) nor too hot in the summer. On average the temperature is around 3 degrees warmer than the UK mainland.
Our currency is £ sterling with our own notes - including £1 notes. UK notes are accepted, and so are Euros in many establishments.
There are many pubs and restaurants on the Island and a full list with our recommendations is in the information pack provided in Puffins. If you have any special dietary requirements let us know and we can advise you where you can go to eat or shop.
